What Sandy Cove Interns Say

We asked Sandy Cove interns a bunch of questions about their internship experience – read what they have to say about their year with us!

A.J. LANGEL from Egg Harbor City, NJ

1. Why did you decide to sign up for Converge?

To know, understand and love Jesus Christ more & develop a relationship with Him. To discover my identity in Christ & become a better leader.

2. What’s the hardest thing you’ve been asked to do?

Learning to slow down. Developing leadership qualities is an aspect of Converge & as a leader you don’t want to be by yourself at the top. Going to the level of those you lead and bringing them up with you is very important. Plus, running around all the time, I experienced burn out. So being patient & conserving energy has been a challenge, but a blessing as well.

3. What’s one thing that has surprised you during your time in Converge?

How the Holy Spirit easily builds relationships between us Convergers amazed me. All of us have different personalities coming from different backgrounds. I did not expect these lifelong relationships to come too.

4. What have you learned about yourself so far this year?

I discovered greatly of how imperfectly perfect I am. Throughout the program and with consistent self-checking, I find garbage and sin deep within me that holds me back from complete surrender to Christ. But even with that God says I’m perfect, because of the sacrifice Christ did for me, for all of us.

5. How has your relationship with God changed since August?

It wasn’t until February of 2019 did I begin developing a relationship with God. Since August, my relationship has exponentially grown & I got my priorities in line to serve our loving God.

6. What has been the highlight of your experience with Converge?

The continuous love and support the Sandy Cove community displayed towards me and being able to see the transformation of guests, in the duration of their staying, watching our mission take place.

7. How has Converge prepared you for your next steps in life?

Converge has provided me opportunity; not only to grow and take time to step back to confidently visualize and have the courage to take those steps, but it also offered enough experience and resume building for greater career opportunity in the future for anywhere.

8. What would you say to someone considering Converge next year?

You get what you put into it. Come in with a determined mindset, focused on Christ and personal growth, and get after it!

Jasmine Morris…I am an army brat, so the world is my hometown!

1. Why did you decide to sign up for Converge?

I wanted to expand my love and relationship with God and myself. I knew that Converge would provide a safe environment and the resources necessary to do that.

2. What’s the hardest thing you’ve been asked to do?

The hardest thing that I have been asked to do is be vulnerable and honest with myself about things I have done and things I do. With the right community I felt at ease.

3. What’s one thing that has surprised you during your time in Converge?

One thing that surprised me during my Converge year is how much I don’t know. I was raised in a Christian family, in a Christian environment and if you were to ask me what Psalm 91 said, I could tell you. But there is so much more to Christianity than JUST knowing Bible verses. My parents gave me a good Christian foundation and Converge helped me build on it.

4. What have you learned about yourself so far this year?

I think the biggest thing I learned about myself is I am so much stronger than I perceive myself to be.

5. How has your relationship with God changed since August?

In August, my definition of a relationship with God was different. Knowing what I know now, everything I do is to praise Him. I have grown mentally and spiritually and I know it’s because God allowed me to be a part of something that allowed me to discover our relationship in a safe environment.

6. What has been the highlight of your experience with Converge?

My highlight of my experience with Converge consists of awesome relationships and mission-minded trips.

7. How has Converge prepared you for your next steps in life?

Converge is a stepping stone for wherever God directs you next. No matter where I go from here, the leadership and Biblical skills I have learned and developed will stick with me.

8. What would you say to someone considering Converge next year?

Do it! I believe Converge is a program for anyone who is willing to put in the work it takes to stretch those parts of you that are needing some work.
